International Women’s Day 2024

On Friday, everyone here at Puddle is joining the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day 2024.

The UN has themed this year’s International Women’s Day, ‘Invest in women: Accelerate progress.’ The celebrations are centred around investing in women to promote prosperous economies and a healthy planet. 

These are the five key areas identified by the UN as needing joint action: 

• Investing in women – Gender equality is a human rights challenge, and supporting equal rights benefits everyone in society. 

• Tackling Poverty – 75 million more people have fallen into severe poverty since 2020; immediate action is crucial to prevent over 343 million women and girls living in poverty by 2030. 

• Implementing gender-responsive financing – Conflicts and rising prices are predicted to lead to widespread public spending cuts, negatively impacting women and their access to essential services. 

• Shifting to a green economy and care society – The current economic system disproportionately affects women; shifting to a green economy and care society could help amplify women’s voices. 

• Supporting feminist change-makers – Feminist organisations receive only 0.13% of official development assistance; increased support and funding are vital.

International Women’s Day encourages everyone to unite and transform global challenges into opportunities to shape a better future for all!

The women of Puddle play a huge role in the company’s overall success by bringing their expertise and unique ideas to the table every day. We’re very fortunate to have such amazing ladies on the team, and without them, Puddle would not be where it is today. 

In the spirit of unity, we reached out to the Puddle team to hear their thoughts about International Women’s Day and this year’s theme of investing in women. 

Hannah – Copywriter

I’d never really realised before now that International Women’s Day has a theme each year, but I think investing in women is a really great one! My goal for 2024 is to become more clued up about and gain more control over my finances, as I believe this will make me feel more empowered as a woman. 

On a wider scale, International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate all the amazing women in my life, including my mum, sister, partner and female friends. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by such fantastic women, and they inspire me to push myself in my career and personal life.

International Women’s Day is such a great opportunity to recognise the progress made in advancing gender equality across the world, along with the importance of diversity and empowerment in all aspects of society! Significant strides have been made in the ongoing battle for quality; however, I think it’s important to recognise how far we still have to go, particularly concerning reproductive rights and the continued fight for bodily autonomy.

International Women’s Day is a special time to look back on how far we’ve come in the fight for women’s rights and equality. In the past, women couldn’t work, vote, or enjoy the same rights as men. On this day, we celebrate the amazing progress made and the positive impact it has had all over the world.
